State of Transition
Cities in Transition
Cities in Transition is a series exploring the changing urban fabric in the European countries formerly controlled by the USSR before 1989.
This project depicts an urban landscape now defined by a contrasted mix of old and new: gray cities and socialist realist architecture intertwined with numerous construction sites, modern city centers, yet to be renovated suburbs, emptied areas, distinct choices on how to plan urban life.
It explores in particular how urban space is a tangible witness that can't be easily hidden away of a complicated recent history: a witness of the times before the Berlin Wall came down, a testimony to the choices that were made since then and their contradictions.
This series focuses on the former East-Germany and Poland.
